The Bronx, NY – Noted Chef de Cuisine Roderick Hooks at Riker’s Island’s renowned penitentiary kitchen has abruptly announced his resignation effective immediately. In a statement hours afterward Riker’s Island Warden Theodore Crews announced the appointment of Sous Chef Emilio Conte as the interim Executive Chef until a permanent replacement could be found. The news came a shock to those inside and outside the prison as Chef Hooks was rumored to be in the running for a James Beard Award.
“In the world of Sloppy Joes, he changed the game.” Riker’s Island Pastry Chef Ching Xu commented.
“He was a genius, full stop.” Says Le Bernardin Executive Chef Eric Rupert allegedly commented. “Also a monster. He left his competition bruised and bloodied on the floor of hotel rooms.”
Warden Crews did not elaborate on the circumstances of the resignation but snitches inside the award-winning kitchen noted a clash between Chef Hooks and his Sous Chef following a 1 Star Yelp review the kitchen received in the Fall.
“Hooks caught a ride on Crews and that didn’t sit well. Boy was about to get hoe checked.” said Riker’s Sous Chef Gabriel Ortega. Indicating the Yelp review was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Despite rumors that the reviewer, New York Time’s critic Thomas Buchanan, was shanked and sexually assaulted during his visit, the kitchen staff remained unphased. “Ultimately its your responsibility as Chef de Cuisine to ensure the experience goes perfectly.” Gabriel countered.
It’s not clear who will take Chef Hooks’ place on a permanent basis. The odds-on favorite, Saucier Dominic Abruzzo, recently joined the Witness Protection Program and was not available for comment.
